Good to meet you…author Kay Lalone

Today’s guest is my fellow Muse author Kay Lalone.  Thanks for coming all the way to Yorkshire, Kay!  Before I start with my questions, help yourself to a cup of tea and one of these delicious currant slices.  And apologies for talking with my mouth full!

author interview, romance novel, romantic, ya novel Where do you live, Kay?  I live in Michigan with my husband and fourteen year old son (two older sons live near by) two dogs and a cat.

Where is your favourite place in the world?  I have two favourite places: a cabin in the woods and the beach. I like the ocean beach when I travelled to South Carolina. But to combine my two favourite places, the ideal place would be somewhere up north (Michigan) near Lake Michigan so I could enjoy the beach, but also a log cabin in the woods.

That sounds relaxing!  Being a writer is a great job.  What’s the worst job you’ve ever had?  I can’t say I ever had a bad job, but the worst job would be working in a fast food restaurant. I worked there for two weeks until I found out I was pregnant with my youngest son. I ended up quitting because of morning sickness.

What book do you wish you’d written?  The Harry Potter series. Just think of all the money she has made off those books. It would nice to make that kind of money off my books, but that is not why I write.

What’s your happiest memory?  Oh, man, I have a lot of happy memories, but at my age it is hard to remember them all and pick which is the happiest. There is my wedding day and the birth of my sons, but I’d have to go with my most recent memory and that is the day I got an email from MuseItUp publishing saying congratulations your manuscript, Ghostly Clues, as been accepted.

If you could meet anyone in the world, dead or alive, who would it be and what would you say to them?  Another tough question. It is a toss up between Nora Roberts and Heather Graham. I’m a big fan of their books. I would ask them about writing. How they make their characters so believable? Where do they get their ideas for their books?

What would your superpower be, if you could choose one?  I think it would be so cool to see and talk to ghosts.

If you won twenty million in the lottery, what would you do with the money?  First, I would let it sit in the bank without touching it until things have calm down, so that I could spend the money wisely because I wouldn’t want money to change me or my family. Then, of course, I would share with my family. Then I would buy my cabin in the woods, near the beach, and continue to write my books.

What’s the most important lesson life has taught you?  That life can be hard, so stop whining about it. God never promised us a rose garden with always sunny days, but He did promise to be with us in those hard times. God will see me through if I lean on Him.

And finally, please tell us about your latest book, where we can find it, and where we can find your blog/website!

About Ghostly Clues:

The sweet scent of lilacs permeates the air around Grandma’s gravesite. Only Sarah Kay can smell Grandma’s favorite flower, and they’re not even in bloom.

Sarah Kay and her best friend, Mary Jane, believe the lilacs are a sign from Grandma’s ghost. The girls follow one ghostly clue after another, uncovering a secret that Mom never wanted Sarah Kay to know.

Grandma makes sure Sarah Kay gets the message even from the grave. As the evidence piles up, Mom still refuses to accept the possibility Sarah Kay’s father is alive.

Sarah Kay finds Dad’s parents. A set of grandparents she didn’t realize existed. They make it clear her father is alive but days and miles separate the father and daughter reunion because Dad is a truck driver on a long haul.

Sarah Kay waits. The news reports a fatal car accident involving a semi and Sarah Kay fears the worse. She runs away which leads to Dad and the truth, Mom wanted Dad to remain dead.

Dad had faked his death so why not just stay dead.  The ghostly clues of Grandma wouldn’t allow Dad to remain dead to Sarah Kay.

My book can be found here at the Muse bookstore and at Amazon, Goodreads and Smashwords

Nice meeting you again, Kay! I love Nora Roberts too. How does she do it, writing so many great stories, again and again? That’s what I’d like to know! Good luck with your writing.

Hello again, Kay. Those places you chose to be sound like heaven to me, too.

I once read that Nora works at writing like an office job. She goes to her office 9to5 and writes. Wow, if that is true, to be that disiplined, no wonder she can put many books out.
Love the cover of your book.
