Good to meet you…author Michelle Pickett

Today I’m excited to welcome author Michelle Pickett to a snowy and icy north of England.  Thanks for coming all this way in the snow, Michelle!  Spring’s very late this year.  Take a seat by the fire, and I’ve made us a nice cup of hot chocolate. That should warm us up a little!

So, where do you live, Michelle? I was born and raised in Flint, Michigan, but I now live in a small community just outside of Houston, Texas.

Where is your favourite place in the world?  This is going to sound very boring, but my favourite place in the world is where my family is. I’ve lived in Michigan, New Mexico, and Texas, and loved them all because my family was around me.

They sound exciting places to me!  Being a writer is a great job. What’s the worst job you’ve ever had?  I was a telephone solicitor. You know, the people who call right during dinner to try to sell you something like new windows or insurance? I was only at that job for two weeks. I hated it!

What book do you wish you’d written?  That’s a really hard question. There are so many great books out there. I’ll answer based on current books because, of course, I’d like to have written the great classics. But the current books on the market today that I wish I’d written would be the Covenant Series by Jennifer L Armentrout or the Divergent series by Veronica Roth.

What’s your happiest memory?  My happiest memories are going to the library with my grandmother every weekend and spending the night with her reading all the great books we found that day. I can never remember a time when the television was turned on when I was at her home. We were always reading.

If you could meet anyone in the world, dead or alive, who would it be and what would you say to them?  Well, right now, I would have to say my dad. Of course, I wouldn’t be meeting him for the first time, but he just recently passed away. His death was quite a shock. I would love to see him one more time and tell him how great a dad he was and how proud I am to be his daughter. And tell him one more time that I love him.

What would your superpower be, if you could choose one?  Super speed. Between taking care of my three school-aged children, writing and keeping up with a house, there are so many things to do in a day. I’d love to have super speed so I could get everything done and have a second to rest at the end of the day!

If you won twenty million in the lottery, what would you do with the money?  Pay off my student loans! I would of course pay bills, set-up college funds for my kids. Then I would love to have time to do charity work. There are so many homeless in Houston, and around the country, I’d love to help in a substantial way. I’m not sure how I would use the money exactly, but it would be related to charity work. I’m not a person who’s big on designer clothes or trends. I’m usually in jeans and a t-shirt or sweats. I don’t think that would change no matter how much money I had.

But, I wouldn’t mind a cook. I hate, hate, hate to cook. Having someone come in a cook for my family would be awesome!

What’s the most important lesson life has taught you?  To be myself. I am who I am and I’ve learned that people will like me and some won’t, but that’s okay as long as I’m true to myself.

And finally, please tell us about your latest book, where we can find it, and where we can find your blog/website!

My latest book is a young adult (but it will actually appeal to adults, as well) post-apocalyptic/dystopian romance titled PODs. You can read more about it on Goodreads or my publisher’s website.

PODs is available for pre-order at Amazon and Barnes and Noble. It releases June 4th, 2013 (which happens to be my son’s 12th birthday!) through Spencer Hill Press.

I just recently signed a contract for a sequel to PODs titled The Infected, which releases next fall and another young adult paranormal book, Milayna, which releases in March, 2014. Milayna is the first book in a trilogy. The release dates for the second and third books haven’t been determined yet. I don’t have links to them, but watch Goodreads or Spencer Hill Press’s website for more information!

I absolutely LOVE to get email from readers and other authors. You can contact me at any of the following:

Thanks, Michelle, it’s been lovely to meet you.  Congratulations on the release of your novels.  I love the cover artwork for PODs.  It’s also good to meet someone who hates cooking as much as I do!  Thanks for taking time out of your busy schedule to visit, and good luck with the launch of your books!

Do you have any questions or comments for Michelle?  If so, please let us know – we’d love to hear from you!

Michelle, I didn’t really enjoy cooking until after I retired. Now I love trying out all kinds of recipes especially since we have fresh veggies from our garden. I am sorry to hear you lost your dad. I hope those great memories you have will comfort you. Best wishes on your new release and all your future releases!

Thank you, J. Q. for you sympathies. My dad was always a great cook, I guess he spoiled us all! I love getting fresh veggies from the garden, but since moving to TX I haven’t figured out how to keep the deer out of them!
