Author Marsha West

Today I’m taking part in a “Meet my character” blog tour. Thanks so much to author friend Marsha West for inviting me. You can read all about the heroine of one of Marsha’s delicious suspenses here on her own blog, as part of the tour.

Marsha’s given me a few questions to answer, so here goes:

1.) What is the name of your character? The character I’ve chosen to write about is Paul Farrell, the hero of my novel A Way from Heart to Heart.

2.) Is he/she fictional or a historic person? He’s a fictional journalist, although I’ve just discovered there’s actually a real Paul Farrell who writes for The Guardian. This was purely coincidence! I hope the real Paul Farrell won’t mind. I’m guessing he won’t take it too hard to be taken for the role model for a kind, considerate, good-looking, all round heroic romantic hero, though! :)

3.) When and where is the story set? It’s set partly in London, and partly on the Yorkshire moors in the north of England, where I live.

4.) What should we know about him/her? At the start of the story, Paul appears quite reserved and rather stiff. The heroine’s secret nickname for him is “stuffed shirt Paul.” As the story progresses, though, we discover there’s a lot more to Paul than meets the eye…

5.) What is the main conflict? What messes up his life? Paul has a secret he’s kept from the heroine for years. The day comes, though, when he decides it’s finally time to reveal all.

6.) When can we expect the book to be published or when was it published? The book was released yesterday! Hooray!

Here are the buy links for A Way from Heart to Heart on Amazon US and Amazon UK. The novel will be available at other distributors in 2015.

And now it’s time for me to pass the baton on. Instead of passing on the questions, I’m going to mention another three bookish blogs I’ve been following, that I love.

1. SS Readers Corner. I absolutely love this Malaysian blog, run by a bookshop that rents out books. (Books are expensive to buy in helena fairfax, a way from heart to heart, paul farrellMalaysia.) I’ve learned a lot of topical book industry facts here, plus got to know of some great new authors. The blog is run by someone who loves to read. We might be miles apart, but we like a lot of similar books.

2. Rosemary Gemmell Rosemary is a Scottish author who often posts about her life in Scotland, as well as writing tips and useful pieces of info for authors. I enjoy her blog very much, and she has some great photos.

3. MuseItUp Publishing blog Muse is the Canadian publishing house where I met Marsha, and where I’ve made lots of other great friends. There’s a theme to the blog every month, and I enjoy reading my friends’ and fellow authors’ entertaining posts. There’s always a post that makes me smile.

I hope you enjoyed finding out more about my hero, “stuffed shirt” Paul Farrell :)

Do you enjoy following other people’s blogs? Do you have any good recommendations for blogs aimed at book lovers or writers? If you have any questions or comments at all, I’d love to hear from you!

I might have a look at Rosemary Gemmell at some point. Oddly enough, despite her advice (with which I agree) re not waiting until everything’s ready, I do feel i’ve got to get into the right place.

    But I also feel I’m nearly there…

Hi James, yes do check out Rosemary. She lives not far from you. And I feel as you do about having to get into the “right place”. The trouble is, it makes me a very slow writer. Very slow at everything! Even a text has to be perfectly punctuated. It’s ridiculous! Well, next year all that is going to change, and my writing is going to speed up. It’s my 2015 resolution!
      Thanks for your comment!

Congratulations on another book release! So happy for you my friend <3 I need a good new romance to curl up with in front of my fire this season as we are already completely buried in snow. Can't wait to read it. :)

Thanks so much, Lynn. I can hardly believe it’s already deep in snow where you are. We are supposed to get a harsh winter here, too – although nothing like the snow you get. The whole country would come to a halt if we did! :)
My book is set in a heatwave. Hard to imagine hot weather when the snow’s piled up outside. Hope it reminds you of summer. It should be available in paperback on Amazon pretty soon. They haven’t put it up there yet.
Hope all’s well with you, Lynn, and that you don’t go stir crazy through the winter.
Good to hear from you. Take care of yourself x

Paul Farrell–stuffed shirt. I had to laugh at that. With your info on the book, I am getting more anxious to get into that TBR pile and pluck it out. Thanks for your website suggestions. I am going to copy them and add them to my websites for authors page for the writing tips ebook. if that’s okay with you. A group I belong to just opened a website for writers–the Insecure Writers Support Group http://www.insecurewriterssupportgroup.com/ I also enjoy Helping Writers Become Authors by K.M. Weiland- http://www.helpingwritersbecomeauthors.com/2014/10/characters-goal.html Thought this would work well for your topic on characters!
And for a lot of fun when taking your coffee/tea break, watch the Carla and Marla Show on You Tube. Good info and entertaining by “real” authors. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hv5t5Juhio4&index=4&list=PLpvei-CRDZING1S5d92CL5IrIpKmN7EXI Even if it is geared toward indie authors, they share info all authors can use.

I did that far too quickly and missed the ‘a’ from the end of your name, Helena! Also hadn’t realised I don’t need to answer the questions, although I might well do that.

Yes, I’d been so busy this week, Rosemary, I didn’t have time to ask people if they’d like to take part in the blog hop. If you do have time, that would be great! I’d love to hear your answers to the questions. Thanks for calling in!
