Today I’m welcoming the fabulous Mrs N.N. Light – Queen of Urban Fantasy Romance, Queen of the Twitterverse, Queen of Just About Everything!

I’ve laid on a special spread today of tea (in proper tea-cups, mind) and a pyramid of Ferrero Rochers. (Note to self: take chocolate from top of pyramid, not the bottom.)

Where do you live, Mrs N? It’s supposed to be a secret but we’re all friends here. You have to promise to not tell, if asked. *winks* I live in a lovely suburb of Ontario, Canada.

Discretion is my watchword! :)

Where is your favourite place in the world? I know it sounds corny, but anywhere my husband is. We love to travel and every summer, we go someplace new. I haven’t been on an airplane since 9/11 so I have to rely on other modes of transportation. My favourite, of course, is the train. I love travelling through the countryside of Canada. It’s a lot like England and the people you meet are just lovely.

I’d love to take a train journey through Canada. I love trains (so much more civilised than planes), and I’ve been through Europe many a time, but Canada must be something else.

Being a writer is a great job. What’s the worst job you’ve ever had? The worst job I have ever had was working at a party supply store. I think I was sixteen. The hours were long and I had the worst manager on the planet. He paid me very little and treated me horribly. I didn’t last long, let me tell you.

People think they can treat teenage workers like slaves. Good for you for getting out.

What book do you wish you’d written? Oh goodness, there are so many. I think, for me, I wish I had written anything by Jane Austen. She had an ability to make you laugh, cry and relate to the characters all at the same time.

Great choice.

What’s your favourite song? I can’t pick, I can’t pick, I can’t pick just one! Okay okay, if one song was my theme song, it would be Shine On You Crazy Diamond by Pink Floyd.

Oh, I love that song!

If you could meet anyone in the world, dead or alive, who would it be and what would you say to them? Oh that’s easy, Ernest Hemingway. I have admired him ever since I was ten and read Old Man and the Sea. I love his writing style and his penchant for doing his own thing. He never let anyone tell him how he should write or what he should write about. He retreated to his writing room and wrote.

If I could spend one evening with him, I would pick his brain on writing novels that surpass time and get his opinion on my own writing style.

That’s a really interesting choice. I’d love to meet him, too, although I’d never let him read any of my writing. I’d be way too nervous!

What’s your happiest childhood memory? My happiest childhood memory is the time I spent with my father. He passed away in 1998 and I miss him every day. He taught me to be myself and ignore the critics.

That’s a great lesson.

If you had to marry a fictional character, from film, television, or books, who would it be? Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice. I know you might think it has to do with his wealth. Pemberley is a lovely estate but that is not why I would marry him. He is quiet, perceptive and loves to read. He’s romantic and loves a woman who keeps him on his toes.

What’s the most important lesson life has taught you? Life taught me to love myself, believe in my dreams and not worry about what other people think. Life is too short to be concerned what the critics say. I don’t live with regret and no one else should either.

“Can I help you with something, sir?” The woman’s voice quivered slightly and she leaned a little, as if she suddenly needed the wall for support.
Whoa, I couldn’t help but think. I frankly felt like a moth to the flame. All I wanted to do was have a reason to get closer to her. The fact that her eyes seemed to shine with an actual light didn’t help matters. I had never felt such an automatic attraction before, and I wanted to lean closer and see what was going on with her eyes.
She was either looking at me like I was the only man in the world—and quite possibly the sexiest one—or else my open gawking had freaked her out. Either way, I couldn’t have told her which it was, because my mouth felt like a cotton ball container.
“Yes,” I managed to rasp to her. “Where is your Architecture section?”
“Are you looking for anything in particular?” Yes. You, I wanted to say. “I could look to see if it is in stock.” Oh. Are there more of you somewhere?
The sound of her voice was starting to make my heart pound.
She had an earthly beauty about her. There was nothing extraordinary in her features, yet something about her just seemed to glow.
I felt my breath quicken. Joe, what’s the matter with you? Get a grip. You’ve seen girls before.
I shook my head to clear my thoughts without worrying what I looked like and said, “Please forgive my manners, but what is your name?”
“Mary.” That just became my favorite name.
“I’m very pleased to meet you,” I said as I extended my hand to her. “I’m Joseph. Please call me Joe.”
She hesitated for a moment before she shook my hand. Electricity bolted up my arm that I wasn’t prepared for. I wondered if she could hear my heart beating. Pretty sure these emotions weren’t winning me any bro-code points.
Her face was flushed and her eyes brightened with interest. Let go of her hand, Joe, I tried to coach myself. If I didn’t let go of it soon, I might never be able to.
So I quickly let go of her hand but immediately regretted it. The whole room suddenly seemed cold and empty.
She probably thinks you’re some kind of wacko. Stop staring. You’re a logical guy… Be reasonable here. Besides, she’s probably married. I ran my fingers through my hair and tried to remember what we were just talking about. I looked up to see her glance towards the entrance. If she asked me to leave, I wouldn’t blame her.
