Today I’m delighted to introduce debut author Kyla Phillips, whose urban fantasy novel has just been released by MuseItUp Publishing. I remember the sheer excitement of seeing my novel available for the first time, and I’m absolutely thrilled to share Kyla’s launch with her on my blog.
Congratulations, Kyla! Agent of Light sounds a fabulous read, and is already on my to-read pile!
Where do you live, Kyla? Northeast Ohio, USA
Where is your favourite place in the world? Brazil has always been a dream destination of mine. The combination of beautiful beaches, culturally diverse, yet somehow still wild.
I’ve been to Ecuador, and it was one of the most interesting places I’ve visited, for the reasons you say. I’d love to explore more of South America.
Being a writer is a great job. What’s the worst job you’ve ever had? Working at a toy factory. It was hot sweaty work that killed my feet and my patience.
Factory work is hard – as I, too, know from experience!
What book do you wish you’d written? There’s a tie. First there’s the classic The Three Musketeers by Alexander Dumas, with its wit and action coupled with brilliant prose that sticks with you. Second is Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card, which is sci-fi at its best. It makes you stretch your imagination to the limit.
The Three Musketeers is one of my all-time favourite books. I’ve never read Ender’s Game, but I love sci-fi. That’s definitely going on my TBR!
What’s your favourite song? Any song that makes me want to dance is my absolute favourite in that moment.
My favourite dance song is Love in the First Degree, by Bananarama. (We’re talking 80s here :) ) Let’s play Bananarama now whilst we’re talking!
If you could meet anyone in the world, dead or alive, who would it be and what would you say to them? I would talk to Shakespeare and milk him for all the writing advice he could give.
What’s your happiest childhood memory? Me, my grandmother, and my mother eating outside on the porch. Three generations enjoying the sun, good food, and each other. Nothing is better than that.
What a lovely memory!
If you had to marry a fictional character, from film, television, or books, who would it be? Just because I’ve recently been reading the Divergent Series I would so marry Four. He is the perfect combination of damaged, strong, and sweet.
What’s the most important lesson life has taught you? Life is hard but love is worth it.
So very true!
And finally, please tell us about your latest book, where we can find it, and where we can find your blog/website
My latest book is Agent of Light, an Urban Fantasy and first in the Council of Light Series. Vayne Andrews lives with a shapeshifting puma, an exhibitionist jinni, and her best friend is a fallen angel yet the world she polices is even crazier.
Agent of Light is about Vayne and her team not only facing a psychotic enemy but also the weaknesses within themselves. It gives you action, drama, a little romance. What more can you ask for from one book?
