This weekend is a Bank Holiday weekend in England – hooray! The last Monday in August is always an official holiday, and banks are shut, and most people can take the day off. Along with Easter Monday, Christmas and Boxing Day, and New Year’s Day, we have two other Bank Holidays in England – the first and last Mondays in May.
The May holidays are my favourites. I love the idea of the holiday in August, but because it’s summer it generally means the roads are jammed. Here are some photos of the places people traditionally visit in Yorkshire on Bank Holiday weekend. They’re all beautiful places, but since my last experience of travelling anywhere on August Bank Holiday involved hours stuck in traffic, I prefer visiting when it’s quieter.
These are all wonderful places to visit, but this Bank Holiday Monday if (if…!) the sun shines I’ll be sitting in my garden with a good book and avoiding the traffic…
For Bank Holiday weekend, for all those people who are doing as I plan to do and staying in with a book, my feel good summer novel Felicity at the Cross Hotel is just 99p/99c for the next few days on Amazon UK and Amazon US. I hope wherever you are you enjoy some sunshine and have a lovely weekend, and if you do travel, have a safe and quiet journey!

If you live in England, are you planning a trip away this weekend, and if so, where? If you don’t live in England, what do you do in your own country’s official holiday?
If you have any comments at all, I’d love to hear from you!
