Good to meet you…author Alexa Bourne

It’s October, and autumn has arrived in the north of England.  The leaves are turning on the trees, the days are gloomy, and as the poet said, it’s the season of mists and mellow fruitfulness.  The poet never mentioned it’s also the season of stinking colds.   I’m keeping my distance from my unfortunate guest today, and hoping she’ll forgive the piles of sodden tissues in the bin, the smell of Lemsip pervading the house, and the fact that her host looks like one of the walking dead.

Thanks for braving the house of the sick, Alexa Bourne!

helena fairfax, alexa bourne, silent surrenderWhere do you live, Alexa?   Austin, Texas

Oh that sounds a wonderfully warm place to be right now!

Where is your favourite place in the world?   I have two: Edinburgh, Scotland and Glenfinnan, Scotland

Lovely choices!  You’ll be used to the cold, then!

Being a writer is a great job.  What’s the worst job you’ve ever had?   Working at a fast food restaurant one summer during college. I was harassed and treated badly by both the customers and the staff.

It’s distressing that poor treatment in the workplace has been such a common theme in these interviews.  Employers and customers, take note.  Staff are human beings, and deserve respect!

What book do you wish you’d written? Outlander by Diana Gabaldon

A popular choice on this blog!

What’s your favourite song? That’s a tough one! There are way too many!

I’m too ill to insist :)

If you could meet anyone in the world, dead or alive, who would it be and what would you say to them? I wish I’d had a chance to meet Stephen J. Cannell. He created all the TV shows I got hooked on as a kid, wrote suspense books I loved, and he inspired me to become a suspense writer. I would thank him for all his work and for being my idol.

Interesting choice.  I’ll check out his books!

What’s your happiest childhood memory? One Christmas when I still believed in Santa, my brother and I sat up talking about Santa and the holiday and staying with our grandparents. We finally fell asleep and the next morning we woke up, snuck downstairs in the dark to see what Santa had left us and then went back to our room. Then our grandmother came in when she heard us talking and talked with us a bit. Then the rest of the family got up and we went to open our gifts. It was a special time and it always brings joy to my heart when I think about it.

That’s a really sweet, lovely memory :)

If you had to marry a fictional character, from film, television, or books, who would it be? Jason Bourne. Although, with people constantly trying to kill him maybe that’s not such a good idea.

Jason Bourne is mine!

What’s the most important lesson life has taught you? Never give up and always seek out the good in any situation.

And finally, please tell us about your latest book, where we can find it, and where we can find your blog/website

helena fairfax, alexa bourne, silent surrenderSilent Surrender was my last released book. It came out in July and it’s a contemporary romance novella set in the Scottish Highlands. Here’s the official blurb:

Meggie MacDougall often dreams of Quinn O’Connell, the sexy Irish football coach who swept her off her feet in Dublin. But what happened in Dublin must stay there. She has responsibilities at home, and she refuses to fuel the gossip fires in Glenhalish.

Quinn has never forgotten Meggie and the explosive weekend they shared. Overwhelmed by memories of her passion, beauty, and zest for life, he jeopardizes his cushy career to find her and test the connection between them.

When Quinn arrives in her Highland village, Meggie is determined to ignore him. However, she isn’t prepared for the claim he lays on her heart with his sexy charm and his tender soul.

Will pride and fear keep Meggie from embracing possibilities, or will Quinn’s gentle persistence break down her defenses and lead her to a silent surrender?
